Microsurgical Scalp Replantation
| This unlucky woman with a long pony tail was working next to a conveyor belt when her hair was caught in the conveyor belt instantly avulsing her entire hair bearing scalp, forehead, eyebrows, upper eyelids and skin of the back of her neck. The amputated tissue was in one piece and during 16 hours of meticulous microvascular surgery, 6 vein grafts were taken from her feet to replace the damaged blood vessels to her scalp. The last picture is taken 3 weeks after the replantation, before return of function of the forehead muscles. |
